Garden State Parkway/I-78 Connection an Example of Getting Things Done

September 17, 2009

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Transportation Chairman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) on Thursday released the following statement on the opening of the new connection between the Garden State Parkway northbound andInterstate 78 westbound:

“This missing link has plagued New Jersey drivers for more than 40 years, but it took Gov. Jon S. Corzine’s administration to finally get it built.

“Not only will this connection make life easier daily for commuters, but it was built cost efficiently and on time. It also, like many of our ongoing infrastructure projects, created new jobs during a global economic meltdown, boosting economic activity when it was most crucial.

“The Legislature, Gov. Corzine and the state are working diligently to improve our roadways with an aggressive $3.6 billion capital improvement plan that for this year includes an extra $50 million for counties and municipalities. That money will not only help stimulate local economies, but will help keep property taxes in check.

“Improvement projects like this undertaken by Gov. Corzine are what New Jersey needs to ensure our roadway network is primed for the 21st century. Our roadways are crucial to our economic development and this long-awaited new connection is a welcome addition.

“I congratulate the Governor and his team for getting this done and improving the lives of thousands of New Jersey drivers.”
